This was my first time using conte crayon, and at first I didn't really know how to use them correctly with getting the values to look good. I outlined the bones with charcoal and then filled in the values with the conte crayon. As I went on I started to get the hang of it and now I definitely want to use it more in the future. At first I had a napkin under the foot to anchor it to the table, but I ended up not liking the way it looked so I just shaded in a shadow the bone casted onto the table. I think I did a good job with al the values for using conte crayon for the first time!
I took a different approach to this assignment than I do with others. I usually like to plan out what I want to do before I actually start. But with this I took a risk and just went with it as I went. I didn't have a plan of what I wanted it to look like and as I went and it turned out to look very geometric. I wanted it to have a gradient look, so it's darker at the top and lighter at the bottom. Then I found some flowers and drew them onto the transparency with sharpie and attached it to the top of the watercolor. I happy with the final product!
In this assignment I used sharpie and a ruler to get all the straight lines. I wanted this to look sort of mechanical and have some movement in it. I tried to get some depth in all the lines throughout the background, and to also show some line variation. I thought putting some little pattens and designs in the circles would give it some variety. This took me a long time to finish and in the end I'm happy with the piece.
For this still life I used graphite for the whole drawing. I never drew a picture with this type of lighting before so in the beginning it was challenging trying to get all the values just right in all the different spaces in the picture. It was also a bit challenging to copy the way the light was hitting the class on the Coca Cola bottle. At first the bottle looked a little lop sided, so I had to go back and fix that. I also think I should've gone darker with some values which I found kind of hard using just graphite. At the end though, I think I did well with how the lighting came out and the picture as a whole.
